Hello! My name is Paris Lailson and I love teaching people off all ages how to sing, write songs, and journey into music at the right tempo for their needs. I have had 15 years of vocal training and picked up guitar and piano to enhance my songwriting, and music production, performance, and theory at Austin Community College. Rounding out my industry knowledge with a degree in Music Business from Berklee College of Music. With 4 years of teaching experience, I've helped over 100 students transform their voices and stage presence, with an emphasis on artistic development, vocal technique, and songwriting.
There is something to be said about intertwining music into your life from a young age. The value of music is how it enriches our personal development and how we can use it to enrich others. Personally, I write and perform music that helps me communicate how I feel to the world in bold ways. It's me in the music. Students who foster their own musical Identities, what their inner beat sounds like, will always have music to rely on throughout life's ups and downs. It's never too late to start! My goal as a teacher is to draw out a students creativity, fill up their tool box, and help them become confident sharing their unique musical sound.
Why I'm Excited About Voice!
Embarking on the journey of voice requires and fun amount of experimentation just like any instrument. There are pockets of frequency that are completely unique to an individuals voice. I love teaching voice and helping a student connect to breaking down barriers that build tension in the voice. I cover the basics of singing using methods from Speech Level Singing. These techniques are designed to promote vocal health and ease.
I utilize various methods and tools to help make vocal concepts easier to grasp. Physical instruments such as singing straws, balloons, pinwheels etc. are put into play to work on breathing. I also use mild core strengthening and endurance exercises intertwined with your everyday warm-ups to realistically be prepared to sing on stage. It is easy to forget that learning how to sing comes hand in hand with learning how to perform and emote on stage. Our breathing and physical capabilities play a role in that. As well as placement, tone, diction, and understanding singing techniques that will help your voice fly on stage.
